TEACHER CERTIFICATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • School districts in North Dakota must provide professional development on dyslexia characteristics and interventions to appropriate K-3 personnel, ensuring schools have staff who can support students with dyslexia.

  • Teachers and principals in grades K-3 must be trained in explicit and systematic literacy instruction, as required by NDCC 15.1-21-12.1 (2021), which benefits students, including those with dyslexia.

  • While North Dakota does not require credentialed dyslexia specialists, school districts must identify staff to receive dyslexia training and guide the support of students with dyslexia.
